I’ve heard of adventure tourism, and I’ve even heard of sex tourism. But “Cosmetic Toursim?” Going to countries known for their monkeys, lemurs, and primitiveness of their medical care for elective surgery? You’ve gotta be kidding!
Unfortunately, I’m not. Looking to save a buck or two, people will put their health on the line. Just ask any of the doctors from San Diego…they have so many patients who snuck below the border to get botched plastic surgery that they don’t know what to do with them.
I don’t mean to pick on Argentina –this story just came across today. But there are many other countries that patients go to searching for cheap plastic surgery.
Let me say this: if you can’t afford to do it right, you can’t afford to fix the complications of doing it wrong!
The issue isn’t traveling for plastic surgery; it is where you are going. If you love opera, you take a trip to NY to see a production at the Met. If you are a surfer, you take a trip to Hawaii. And if you want the top medical care, you generally go to the United States.
I’ve had a program at my office for out of town patients in place for many years. See https://www.drteitelbaum.com/out_of_town.html for details.
